Christy Diniz Liffmann is a Brazilian-American, born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She grew up in a family in which the arts were not only appreciated but practiced. This culturally rich environment was furthered enhanced by her close contact and awareness of the natural beauty of that country’s fauna and flora.
She came to the United States to attend college in Texas. She married and moved to Louisiana with her husband. After her sons were of school age, she returned to her studies receiving her B.A. and M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University. It is here that she raised her family and established a career as a professional artist, teacher and formed a company that specialized in decorative painted finishes.
Extensive travels abroad have been a constant source for learning, inspiration and personal growth. Her experiences are woven into the images, creating pathways into memory-based places both near and far.
Diniz Liffmann is represented by galleries in Louisiana and Maryland where she currently resides with her husband. Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the United States, Brazil, France, Italy, China and Israel.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My paintings come out of a specific place that is shaped and colored by the persistence of memory. While the paintings convey an authentic sense of place, they allow the viewer to enter that special space between what is remembered and what is known.
Recollections of people, landscapes, situations, and sensations are initially captured on location in quick drawings or watercolors, only to be reinvented or reinterpreted at a later date. Impressions are edited, combined and often intensified to convey a personalized "memory-scape". Pattern, color, form, light and texture are important elements used to shape the places of memory.
